This is me!

About Allison Jacobs Photography

About me... I love Starbucks soy latte with 2 pumps of hazelnut. I think that learning my Droid X came with a Kindle reader already installed was a wonderful surprise. Celebrate is my word for 2011. The best thing about the weekend is spending it with my family. I believe I was born to live near the ocean. I am a runner. Learning about photography everyday makes me happy. I learned how to cook from watching the Food Network. Hmmm....that is not everything about me but hopefully it is enough for you to look through my blog and maybe leave me a comment or 2 so I know you were here! XOXO

light | P52 | aliso creek beach

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

There is something magical about the light here in southern California and there is no lack of light at the beach. These were taken about one hour before sunset when the sun was hovering over the water and reflecting off almost every surface.

Over the past year I have joined together with 10 other women to post an image focusing on the same theme each week through The Bloom Forum. This circle is not only given me a focus for the week for my photography but it is also inspirational. Be sure to see what Melanie Kay Photography – Thousand Oaks Child Portrait Photographer has found this week.

Dana Point Harbor | Dana Point, California

Saturday, October 22nd, 2011

A few weeks ago the theme for P52 was structure.  I thought that Dana Point Harbor would be a great place to head to capture this word in pictures.  Unfortunately the weather was gray & dreary along with the harbor.  I uploaded my shots then walked away thinking I didn’t get anything I would want to use.  This week I decided to look back and what I captured (thankfully) and I was surprised to see some images I liked.   We have been to the harbor a few times to eat, watch the sunset, and go into the shops there.  It is a fun way to spend some time.

South Coast Farms | Pumpkin Patch

Sunday, October 16th, 2011

We had such a great time at the South Coast Farms pumpkin patch in San Juan Capistrano yesterday. It was smaller than the Peltzer Farms we went to last year in Temecula but had some fun activities set up for the kids. Gavin made some cider, strung beads, ground some corn, and washed clothes the old fashioned way on a board in a tub of water! Gavin picked out a couple of perfect pumpkins and one is already carved into a jack-o-lantern.

padres game & ultra wide angle lens

Monday, September 5th, 2011

All these images were taken with the Canon 14mm 2.8L which is a wider than wide angle lens.  It is not practical at all but oh what fun I had with this lens.  I think the two weeks I spent with this lens helped me get out of a funk I was in with my photography.  It just helped to give me a new perspective.  I was sad to see it go but I have to keep saving for that 35mm 1.4L which I know I will be able to use for so many more things.  The 14mm gives a really interesting view and DOF that is unique but doesn’t fit my typical shooting style.

We started off with a little food and live music at The Tin Fish.

Tilted buildings anyone?

Then it was time to get to the seats (great view of the field & Baker bear was along dressed in his Padres outfit).
