I love brunch. And when one of my dearest friends was here visiting in the fall I found a new place to love. Not only that but it is a place that has these great big waffles that my son loves too. Everybody wins.

Sunday, February 26th, 2012Oh how I love a nicely styled cupcake shot. I have been working on the set up & styling of the food I have been photographing this year. For this shot I pulled out the china coffee cups, the sterling silver from my grandmother, and the family antique cake plate. Using those pieces and thinking of family just makes it that much sweeter.
cupcake
Friday, February 24th, 2012There was this really great boutique cupcake shop in Temecula last year and a few times I took advantage of photographing those gorgeous cupcakes before I would let anyone in the house eat any of them. Same story here just different cupcakes (these are from Trader Joe’s)! For this shot I pulled out my sterling silver and hoped it would add some detail to the feel of the image. The detail on the silverware doesn’t show here but I still like how it turned out + there is always tomorrow!

artichoke
Thursday, February 23rd, 2012I have come across some really inspiring food bloggers, food stylists, and food photographers over the last few months since I joined up with a group of photographers all looking to learn more about food photography & styling. One thing I have learned {which seems really simple when I think about it} is that the light is just as important with food photography as it is with all other photography. Unfortunately, it seemed liked the time of day I had the food ready {trying to make it to photograph + eat for dinner} the natural light is gone. In this shot I noticed the late afternoon light coming in the window & hitting the dining room table at the same time I was cooking an artichoke to share with my son. Ah, the light. Hello.

what to wear {family photo session clothing ideas}
Thursday, February 16th, 2012I haven’t posted a What to Wear in a while so I figured it was about time. I know that the days are getting longer, the sun is staying out just a bit more and warming things up some so that will hopefully inspire you to get out with the family to get some photos together. It doesn’t have to be a formal experience and everyone doesn’t have to match exactly. The key here is to coordinate your outfits and wear clothes you feel good in. That confidence and comfort will shine through in your photos. Here are some examples of how to pull together those looks.
