This is me!

About Allison Jacobs Photography

About me... I love Starbucks soy latte with 2 pumps of hazelnut. I think that learning my Droid X came with a Kindle reader already installed was a wonderful surprise. Celebrate is my word for 2011. The best thing about the weekend is spending it with my family. I believe I was born to live near the ocean. I am a runner. Learning about photography everyday makes me happy. I learned how to cook from watching the Food Network. Hmmm....that is not everything about me but hopefully it is enough for you to look through my blog and maybe leave me a comment or 2 so I know you were here! XOXO

first tooth lost + a crown for every day

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

Little Gavin may not be so little for much longer.  He lost his first tooth this month & I have spent a few different occasions trying to capture that toothless grin with my camera. This has resulted in some not very genuine smiles, silly faces, and cute images that didn’t show off that missing tooth.  Then I uploaded some images after way had just been playing in the yard one afternoon and fell in love with this one.  He had found this crown he made last year at preschool and asked if he could wear it.  How could I deny him?  I wonder what age we decide we are too old to wear paper crowns just because.  No reason, no celebration, just the desire to wear a handmade crown.

Along with my P26 group I have joined a food photography group for 2012. We will post monthly all on the same theme. This month our focus was on photographing fruit on a white background. I had such a great time trying something new and practiced with a number of different fruits. I am excited about what I will learn from this group throughout the year and I am looking forward to some great food!

Be sure to continue on with the circle to see what fruit the others worked with this month starting with my California neighbor Kim Kelly San Diego Food and Travel Writer.

faceless portrait | just my feet

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

I have joined together with some fabulous photographers for a new project for 2012.  Once a month we will post an image that includes ourselves with our loved ones and once a month we will all post our interpretation of a set theme.  This week the theme is faceless portraits.  Since I have a history of capturing portraits that include only Gavin’s feet (gotta love those Chuck Taylors), for the challenge this week I decided to use my own feet.  Wearing my favorite red high heels.  Standing in one of my favorite places.  The backyard.

Now head over to Jayme Franklin | San Francisco Bay Area Family Photographer  to see what she has for us this week.

Me and Mine

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

I have joined up with a fabulously talented group of photographers for a great new project for 2012 {that I am super excited about} and you can follow the links to see everyone’s image starting off with Jules Trandem | San Diego Child and Family Photographer.  We will be posting twice a month and one of the posts will include an image that has me in it.  This is a challenge for me.  I would much rather be on the other side of the camera.  The significance of this project is close to my heart for many reasons but most of all so that when Gavin grows up he has images that illustrate just how much I love him.  I am great at telling him everyday how special he is to me but I want him to have something tangible to hold that reflects that love back to him.  So, with that in mind I am letting go of whatever insecurities I have about being in front of the lens & trying to capture this relationship.  Thanks to Jules, I got this shot in Oceanside just last weekend!
