This is me!

About Allison Jacobs Photography

About me... I love Starbucks soy latte with 2 pumps of hazelnut. I think that learning my Droid X came with a Kindle reader already installed was a wonderful surprise. Celebrate is my word for 2011. The best thing about the weekend is spending it with my family. I believe I was born to live near the ocean. I am a runner. Learning about photography everyday makes me happy. I learned how to cook from watching the Food Network. Hmmm....that is not everything about me but hopefully it is enough for you to look through my blog and maybe leave me a comment or 2 so I know you were here! XOXO

50 steps from the front door

Saturday, September 17th, 2011

I am constantly trying to stretch my photography skills, learn new techniques, and get more creative.  One way I do this is by checking out the challenges posted in the Clickinmoms forum.  There was a recent one this month to step outside your front door, walk 50 steps or less then come back with a photo.  Many of the submissions were macro images of weeds, flowers, and of course bugs!  Since my macro time only rolls around when I rent the fabulous Canon 100mm 2.8L Macro lens I had to come up with something else.  That something else of course includes Gavin.  We had fun counting the steps and looking for things to photograph.

This one of Gavin following Scott in the front door with the inside light clashing with the natural lighting outside was at the top of my list of faves.

And this one, well, it may just be the mom in me, but it stuck with me in the top 3 too. Doesn’t he look like a doll in his glasses?

There isn’t as much time for peace as I would like in my life.  I am typically on the go all the time just like tons of other moms and wives who work full time too.  It can be a balancing act to find the time to meet everybody’s needs plus my own.  And peace?  Well, that can be elusive at times.  One thing I know is that it is important to be fully present when I am spending precious time with my family and friends.  Especially my son.  I don’t always make this happen but I am continuously striving for it.  Last Saturday I was playing around with the timer and trying to get a self portrait.  I didn’t accomplish that goal but what I did get was a few peaceful moments being with my son while we laughed out loud running back & forth to the camera to set the ten second timer.  Being fully present.  And being at peace with my life.

Technical info: 5dMarkii, 85mm, using 10 sec timer, manual, no flash, RAW, ISO 1600, f/3.2, 1/160

Now visit my friend Lori Jaeski to see what she found to illustrate peace this week.

you right now

still love trains but told me the other day that you almost like dinosaurs just as much
don’t like anything scary in movies or in TV
eat spicy almonds
wear size 6
are super sweet and kind
shy with new people
sing along to your music in the car (with all your heart)
are good at puzzles
enjoy coloring & all kinds of crafts
love being outside especially the beach
are great at being you

Taken at Legoland in the shade around 1:00 pm with Canon 5dMarkii & Canon 85m shot in RAW.  Basic PP done for slight adjustment to white balance in ACR then a bit of a bump in curves in PS.  Saved & resized for web.  Super simple.  Nothing better than keeping it super simple.

what to wear

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

For the last few months I have been thinking on & off about scheduling a session to have family portraits done.  I keep getting stumped on what to have us all wear.  I love these guides because they help show how you can have everyone wear outfits that blend without being too matchy matchy.  I still don’t know what we are going to wear for our own portrait session (which is hopefully getting on the books for next month) but I hope this gives you some ideas for your own family!

the little things

Friday, September 9th, 2011

On The Bloom Forum today I saw a challenge to post a photo that showed the little things. Not the big picture, not the overall idea but the little things. I immediately thought of a photo I took yesterday while playing in the yard with Gavin. He was tossing a few of his favorite stuffies up in the air & wanted to see which one would go the highest. I grabbed the camera to play around & try to grab a few shots worth keeping. I love the one where you can see how he is just clutching on to the rabbit along with the stickers on his shirt. I know that this illustrates one of the little things of our everyday life right now and I just don’t want to forget them. So much to be thankful about including the opportunity to use my camera to catch these little things worth remembering.
