About Allison Jacobs Photography
About me... I love Starbucks soy latte with 2 pumps of hazelnut. I think that learning my Droid X came with a Kindle reader already installed was a wonderful surprise. Celebrate is my word for 2011. The best thing about the weekend is spending it with my family. I believe I was born to live near the ocean. I am a runner. Learning about photography everyday makes me happy. I learned how to cook from watching the Food Network. Hmmm....that is not everything about me but hopefully it is enough for you to look through my blog and maybe leave me a comment or 2 so I know you were here! XOXO

Here is an image I was considering for P52 this week. I had been playing around with the gray seamless studio set up the last few weeks & had gotten G to sit in front of the seamless on Wednesday because I needed to get a photo for the week but what he REALLY wanted was to just play with his Lego plane. He kept jumping off the stool to run away & I turned to snap this 1 photo of him not in front of the gray (in comparison to about 35 with the gray background).
This is what I got & when I looked at it on my computer I wondered why I was trying so hard to get him in front of the gray. This is a true capture of what he looks like every day playing and I found myself wishing I had been snapping away during this moment. I am working on letting some of the rules go & just shoot. I found myself wishing I had moved my purse & G’s backpack out of the hallway so they weren’t cluttering up the background then found myself stressing about how to process the image (like can I take out the AC on the wall & why is there a random red line reflecting down the hall, do I go dull on the color or pop, is it too bright with the window blown out, etc). All silly I know. So, now that I have dumped my heart out here is the image I chose not to use for my P52 but that I loved anyway!

Wondering what to wear for that family photo session this spring? Here are some wonderful ideas to get you started. Even when it is warm outside you can still get great depth with clothes. Add a super cute headband for the girls or throw a tie on the boys but push up the sleeves of that oxford button down. Just make sure you feel comfortable in what you wear because that confidence will shine through to your photos!

Light.
Childhood.
Carefree.
Living in the moment.
Simplicity.

Now head over to Efi to see what she came up with for the theme this week.
Out of the many definitions you can find in the dictionary on growth I liked this simple explanation the best.
growth: noun \ˈgrōth\
1. progressive development : evolution
Especially as it relates to my photography journey. I think that growing as a photographer for me has been cyclical. At times I find I am discouraged by a lack of growth yet I know right around the corner from that discouragement will be an image that reminds me why I do this and makes my heart sing. Those moments are typically moments of growth. I have finally been able to get a certain skill mastered or tried a new technique that worked. It can even be something as simple as changing my perspective like I did for this photo at the park. I love that photography provides a constant challenge and there is always room for growth.
